A German Requiem

A renowned oratorio where death is separation but also access to unpredictable communication with the sources of being and infinity

An oratorio with a grand ballet is not an ascent to the heavens, but above all a testimony where the language of movement, which is a powerful means of expression, shows how human beings live their lives constantly in the shadow of death. It combines moments of indescribable lightness with delicate exploration of balance and the discovery of the divine in its human counterpart. Choreographer Martin Schläpfer chose one of the most unusual works among the requiems for a full-length ballet with live orchestra: a highly individual score with which Johannes Brahms wanted to rise above the very boundaries of religions, churches and nations.

Martin Schläpfer brings to our ballet company one of his internationally most successful works with a new dimension of perception and a look into the structures of modern ballet.
