Requiem
Gabriel Fauré
Gabriel Fauré
Requiem
This poignant, late Romantic piece by Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924), a composer bridging the music of the 19th and 20th centuries, is one of the most popular and most frequently performed requiems in general. As a result of Fauré’s extreme degree of self-criticism, it is also one of the very few of his surviving large works. Rich in melodies, it uses light tones of conciliation in supernal harmony, reaching its emotional pinnacle in the beautiful soprano solo of “Pie Jesu.”
